Marcelle Hanselaar was born in Rotterdam and studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague. Her work is influenced by her upbringing in a postwar country and her fascination with theatrical illusions. Peppered with a biting sense of humour, the works reveals an understanding of humanity, in all its animosity and fragility. She has lived in London since the early ‘80s.
