Jake Clark’s paintings are based on collages and models made from detritus found in his studio. Photographs of these structures then become the reference material for the paintings. The “flower” became the starting point for this series of images. Jake’s interest is in pushing one image on top of another so the picture space becomes twisted. The scale is also meant to be ambiguous by suggesting architecture or toys, emphasised by the lighting aiming to create an eerie quality.
Jake Clark was born in 1966 in London. He studied painting at Brighton and the Royal College of Art, completing his MA in 1993. He lives and works in London.
